How it works
When we service your boiler, we take a ‘belt and braces’ approach to making sure that every aspect of your boiler and connected heating system work safely, effectively, and efficiently.
There is a standardised process we follow to ensure the safety of your system, and also a process specific to your boiler make and model, and manufacturer. Our engineers are trained and accredited by various leading manufacturers to carry out services and repairs, so you can be assured that your boiler is in safe hands.
Frequently asked questions
Our standard charge is £110 plus VAT, which covers the callout and full service. If any parts or additional work are needed, your technician will discuss this with you at the time and explain any further costs involved.
A standard service usually takes between 40 mins to an hour, unless the technician identifies a significant problem.
Most manufacturers recommend an annual service to keep their boilers working correctly. This is important to identify issues at an early stage and minimise the risk of unexpected shutdowns or repairs. You will also need an annual service to upkeep your manufacturer’s warranty.
As boilers are gas appliances, it’s important that servicing is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer to ensure that the work is conducted safely and effectively. Unless you are qualified and familiar with your make of boiler, DIY servicing is illegal, can pose a safety risk and will void your warranty.
Services are intended to clean and maintain boilers and flag up any safety issues that may not be readily apparent. Many homeowners schedule their service at the same time each year, often in the spring or summer. However, if you suspect a fault or notice any unusual noises coming from your boiler between services, please get in touch. We can send an engineer over to assess your boiler and diagnose any underlying issues.
We take care of the details so that you don’t have to do, but here is a brief outline about what to expect:
- Visual inspection – the technician will begin with a visual inspection to check the overall condition of your boiler and heating system, looking for any obvious signs of leaks, damage, and corrosion.
- Check controls and settings – next, the engineer will review your boiler controls and settings to ensure they are functioning correctly and are optimised for efficiency and performance.
- Flue and ventilation check – the flue – which is the exhaust pipe that expels gases from your boiler – and ventilation components will be inspected for blockages, obstructions, or leaks. The correct ventilation/ air supply is crucial for safe and healthy operation.
- Gas pressure check – the boiler’s gas pressure will be checked to verify that the unit is receiving the correct amount of gas and is burning it efficiently. Incorrect gas pressure can affect performance and safety.
- Cleaning – key components such as your heat exchanger, burner, and other parts may be cleaned if necessary to remove accumulated dust or debris that could affect boiler performance and cause failure in operation
- Safety testing – all safety devices and mechanisms, including your pressure relief valve and carbon monoxide detectors, will be tested to make sure they are working correctly.
- Electrical connections – all electrical wiring and connections within the boiler will be inspected for function, security, and safety.
- Boiler ignition – your ignition system will be checked to ensure the boiler lights correctly and operates safely. This will involve testing the pilot light or electronic ignition system.
- Water and gas leak checks – the engineer will then inspect your system for any signs of water or gas leaks around the water or heating system, detecting and fixing leaks at an early stage to prevent later issues.
- Operating test – finally, your technician will put your boiler through its paces to check overall operation, including how it responds to the controls and whether it heats up appropriately. They will also check for any unusual noises, vibrations, or excess heat.
- Service report – after completing your service, the technician will give you a service report breaking down the checks and actions performed, any findings, and give their professional advice about any further repairs or maintenance required.
